Stairway at main station in Karlsruhe, around summer 1994. In the meantime this underground crossing is closed. Analog material, captured on a Kodak Photo-CD. I have also a version on color negative material but I prefer the b/w one.

Good B/W shot, it seems a lifeless place! cool
F*A*B*U*L*O*U*S lines! Love this
love the lines in this shot
love black and white… and this one takes u you to some other place..
Excellent photo in black and white; and probably more dramatic shown in B/W, then in color. Lots of lines in this one. Makes it interesting to view. I missed the “dude” that DOMK mentioned. Seems too overexposed, though.
I always get the same complaints because of the damn Kodak Photo-CD!
The original film material is accurately exposed and sharp but the scan from Kodak is a crap par excellence – many pictures are too dark or too bright or unsharp. I’ll never do that again!
At present I have to live with that bytes but as soon as I get a good slide scanner I’ll revise some of my works….
Wonderful composition with excellent lines!
Terrific movement in this – very dynamic shot.
I like the composition of this picture. All lines and your choice of b&w turned the picture into an abstract shot of patterns and variations of light and shadows. This is very interesting – at least to me – because it has an artistic appeal that I appreciate. The guy that is climbing down the stairs gives movement to the picture and, thus, contrasts with the aseptical mood of the composition. I don’t know wheter I like it or not, because it adds some humour to the otherwise very artistical and conceptual shot. But then, it ended not being an abstract, a photo about lines and patterns…
B&W definetly the way to go.
Great perspective and great lines.
Intriguing mixture of lines. Works quite well but probably needs something to stand out or provide strong contrast to fully engage my attention. Difficult to control the exposure in the circumstances. The figure is interesting but probably should be more obtrusive.
Still, a very interesting interpretation of a difficult subject.
Awesome comp/tones.
The figure is 4 me in harmony with patterns/lines.
U know what distracts me and also not?
The graphity ‘ APM’ at the wall.
But it also adds a nice statical touch to this superb surrealistic photo of moving lines.
Oh, I like this a lot. The use of all the lines really helps to carve out an amzazing photograph. I love the way all the lines go in the same direction and take your eye up the stairs. This photo is very easy to get into. And very east to get lost in.
Shame about the Kodak conversion process screwing you over on contrast, but the image is still an immensely attractive one. It looks glorious in black and white and I love the composition. This is a wonderfully original take on an otherwise dreary and unphotogenic scene, and I like it most for that.
hmm.. this is a well done shot and an interesting idea to use a long exposure time..
but the guy on the moving staircase is somehow rather interfering here..
the angle, the position and the crop are very well chosen i think…
and all in all it’s a really good composition!
even though in my mind it’s a very common picture it’s somehow special
The numerous lines in the pic does make it interesting but it’s too empty and it’s screaming for a focal point which it current lacks.
This is quite an interesting shot but it lacks a main subject in my opinion. I think I would like it better if there were more people in the shot perhaps with a slow shutter speed to emphasise movement (I know this is a little cliched though).
The contrast is also a little too high and I think it makes the image appear a little harsh as a result.
I do like the composition and use of all the converging lines.
good composition and BW contrast. some person would make it brillinat
Thank you for the interesting feedback!
As I remember I was waiting for the right shot until only 1 person have been in the image, but I was a bit to early, afraid about it could be going crowded again.
I like this image very much because of the different perspectives and the thematic contrast “human environment”…
Guess I should change that title into “Geometrical Orgasm”
